Last week, we were going nutters for nut butters..and this week, the nuttiness continues! Perhaps you’re thinking to yourself, “Man, I sure love my peanut butter..am I really ready to be a Nut Butter Nutter?"
Well, today we’ll be talking about how Amazin’ Nut Butters are different from commercial peanut butters. For all those hesitating to hop on the nut butter bandwagon, perhaps this post will unleash the Nut Butter Nutter in you. Read on!
So how is Amazin’ Nut Butters different from commercial peanut butter? Let us count the ways!
1. Amazin’ Nut Butters are stone-ground
Stone grinding is a method of using perfectly smooth granite wheels to grind food. Because there is minimal friction, the temperature of the nuts can be maintained at a low level throughout the grinding process. This preserves the nutrients and flavours of the nuts while achieving a silky smooth texture.
In contrast, commercial peanut butters are mostly processed using blades that chop up the peanuts, generating a fair amount of heat in the process. This heat not only alters the taste of the peanuts, but it also degrades key vitamins and healthy oils, resulting in a decrease in nutrition quality.
2. Amazin’ Nut Butters have no added salt, refined sugar, trans fat, or preservatives
Amazin’ Nut Butters are 100% natural, and infinitely delicious! The All Natural Nut Butters (Almond, Cashew, and ABC) consist of pure nuts, lightly roasted and stone ground – and nothing else!
The three flavoured nut butters (Super Seeds Seed Butter, Black Sesame Almond Nut Butter, and Chocolate Coconut Hazelnut Butter) are fun and yummy while incorporating minimal amounts of natural additives, like cinnamon, orange zest, and cocoa.
Commercial peanut butter, on the other hand, almost certainly contains salt and sugar, as well as hydrogenated oils (trans fat!) and preservatives to make it more shelf-stable.
3. Amazin’ Nut Butters contain more valuable heart-healthy fats
Nuts and peanuts both contain a significant proportion of fat, in addition to good protein and minimal carbohydrates. However, the fat in nuts is mostly in the form of good, heart-healthy unsaturated fat, which can help to keep your cholesterol levels in check. Compare that to peanuts, which have a higher saturated fat content – the kind of fat that raises unhealthy cholesterol in the body. Factor in the added trans fat (also bad!) in the form of hydrogenated oil in commercial peanut butter, and it’s no competition which type of butter is healthier for your heart (hint: it’s the Amazin’ type!).
4. Amazin’ Nut Butters contain more minerals and antioxidants
We mentioned this briefly in our previous post – nut butters are more mineral-rich than peanut butter, containing higher amounts of minerals like iron, copper, and magnesium. In addition, nut butters also contain more valuable antioxidants like Vitamin E and selenium (1 serving of ABC butter gives you more than 100% of the selenium you need in a day!). If you remember from our post on antioxidants, damage is caused to our bodies daily by free radicals – and while some of these free radicals are completely normal, over-exposure has been linked to premature ageing, and diseases like cancer and heart disease. Antioxidants are our little protectors, counteracting free radicals and keeping us healthy. You can read our previous post to find out more about antioxidants and the good they do!
Now the competition is over, and the final tally is in…nut butters take the win! While peanut butter certainly makes a tasty occasional treat, nut butters are the clear way to go for getting your daily nutty fix of deliciousness – plus the nutrition, minus the guilt! So join the revolution and be a Nut Butter Nutter today!
